This initiative promotes interoperability, the ability to exchange data and images seamlessly. Based on an agreed-upon standard, different vendors with various types of instruments can send their images to an electronic health record system. As a result, ophthalmologists can purchase systems based on clinical considerations, not confined to systems that are compatible with existing equipment.
